The purpose of the current study is to validate the Young Parenting Inventory Korean version(YPI-K: Choi, Lee, 2016) which is a measure of perceived parenting experiences, hypothesized to represent the origins of Early Maladaptive Schemas(EMS) by Young(1994). A sample of 161 Psychiatric outpatients and inpatients completed the YPI-K, the Young Schema Questionnaire-Short form (YSQ-S), the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI) and the Symptom Checklist-90-R: PAR, PSY. This preliminary validation consisted of analyses of factor structure, internal consistency, test?retest reliability, convergent and concurrent validity. Factor analyses demonstrated that a shorter version of the questionnaire (YPI-K) could be developed to represent the trait of clinical sample and Korean cultural context, coherent and meaningful perceptions of each parent and include. The YPI-K consists of eight scales. Most of scales had good test?retest reliability and adequate internal consistency. Significant associations between the YPI-K scales and negative core beliefs(as measured by the YSQ-S), BDI, BAI, SCL-90-R: PSY,PAR indicated partial convergent and concurrent validity. At this preliminary stage, it can be concluded that the YPI-K has an partially acceptable level of psychometric utility. The current study provides the initial psychometric properties of the YPI-K in clinical samples of Korea. Finally, the implications and the limitations of this study, and the suggestions for future study were also discussed.
